you do not port forward to do a remote desktop or ip tunnel from your work pc to your home pc , there are several programs you can use such as logmein or goto my pc to do what your requestingI want port forwarding via internet so that i can control my homepc from the office also.. what can i do for?
The modem does not do the port forwarding for you. The modem is simply a interfacing device between your ISPs transfer medium (cable, phone line, satellite...) and your devices. Then you can have a consumer router behind that modem to share your net connection and protect your network. This is what allows port forwarding. Sometimes the ISP will ship you a box that has a router/switch/modem combination.

You will need to purchase a consumer-oriented router to do port forwarding. If you were connected directly to a modem, this would be left completely to your PC and its software firewall.

Linksys makes great routers.

However, for most users, using LogMeIn is a better choice.
You would need something like the UTStarcom's UT-304R2 or UTStarcom's UT-300RA, which are SOHO router devices with ADSL modems built-in. The router sections can provide VPN pass through tunnels to provide secure remote connections to machines on your network.

There are many makers of router hardware that support such functions, including LinkSys, DLink and others. I linked UTstar, because that is the brand of equipment you have.
