What are 'cookies' on the internet, and how do I control them?

I have heard that cookies are the culprate for lots of viruses, and that you can control which you allow, and which you don't. How do I do this please? What are 'cookies' on the internet, and how do I control them?
no--cookies are not harmful

ever notice that yahoo mail remembers who you are? that is because when you visit, it leaves a cookie in your computer, which is a short code, to identify you when you return.

to control them, to to tools/internet options.

if you turn off cookies, you can't use email. What are 'cookies' on the internet, and how do I control them?
Go to Tools,

Select ';Internet Options';

Click on ';Privacy'; tab,

Choose the level of protection/privacy you want,

Click OK.

To visit some sites and obtain information, you may have to adjust (lower) the level - so make a note of how to do it. (Adjust it back after you have the info you need.)

Yes (as said above), you can also delete cookies and files to start fresh.
no,/...cookies are just temporary internet files.

Go to your start menu

click on control panel

click on network and internet connections

click on internet options

click on delete cookies

click on delete files

and if you want you can delete your history

and it will enhance the speed of your computer, and make it run more smoothly!!
cookies help a company know who you are. For instance Yahoo might use them to know which things you like. You can control them by going to control panel and selecting security (I think this is what it is called).
Cookies are small text files which stores user's information on a computer by a Web Browser at the request of software at a Web site. Web sites use cookies to recognize users who have previously visited them. The next time the user accesses that site, the information in the cookie is sent back to the user so the information displayed can vary depending on the user鈥檚 preferences.

Cookies enable web sites to remember your previous visits, in the same way that a shopkeeper will remember your face when you visit the shop.By this way some site also use cookies as a log in file so that you don't need

to give user name and password after one visit to those

site.

In windows 2000 The cookies are in the folder

C:\Documents and Settings\%26lt;logged in user%26gt;\Cookies

where %26lt;logged in user%26gt; is the user who is currently logged in.On some situations we can also find them on

C:\Documents and Settings\%26lt;logged in user%26gt;\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

You can just delete those files(but they are not

harmful b'coz they are just text files).Harmful files are

scripts and exe files which are downloaded and executed from Temporary Internet Files folder.Mainly they are automatically downloaded from crack sites like

crackspider.com.
with cold milk mmmmmmm
u can eat w cold milk!!!!!!
A small program that a web sit places on your computer. Some are not malicious, all they do is store details about you so that when you visit the same site again, it will ';remember'; who you are.

But some are not so good. They monitor what you do and report back to their owner. There may be many reasons for doing this, for example, advertisers would like to be able to target you with adverts for things that they know you might want to buy. So (for example) if you visited a web site talking about skin diseases on cats, you might find that suddenly you are getting adverts for cat food.

That would have been because a malicious cookie was watching what you do and reporting back.

There are literally thousands of them.

To get rid of them, download ';Addaware';, ';Spyware Doctor'; of ';Spybot'; (Google will find them for you).
cokkies are elements from the website that are stored in your computer...

pro:

cookies can make you surf faster when you are visiting the website again, because you already have the elements.

con:

most cookies are harmful except those from trusted websites (which you know who build them, who manage them etc....)
at the top of the page click tools, internet options, delete cookies, this should help
watch out for the cookie monster he likes to eat them
